St Joseph's Hospital Denver Receives Magnet Designation

As Director of the Magnet Recognition Program, I am pleased to inform you that the Commission on the Magnet Recognition Program has voted to confer Magnet designation to the Saint Joseph Hospital in Denver, Colorado.

 This letter will serve as formal notification to your organization about the Magnet designation for this health care organization. Please share this information with the President and other stakeholders of your organization. Evaluation of Patient Education on the Safe Use of Opioids Survey

Dear Colorado Healthcare Provider,

We are pharmacists from the University of Colorado School of Pharmacy who have developed a survey to assess provider knowledge, attitudes, and behaviors regarding opioid education as a part of a grant-funded research project entitled “Evaluation of Patient Education on the Safe Use of Opioids.” By completing this survey you will be helping us gather information on this critically important issue. The compiled results from health care providers across our state will be shared with the Provider Education Work Group of the Colorado Consortium for Prescription Drug Abuse Prevention to help improve patient education and address barriers to education. American Nurses Association Elects Board Members

The American Nurses Association (ANA) announced today that the voting representatives of ANA's Membership Assembly elected four members to the nine-member board of directors. Ernest James Grant, PhD, RN, FAAN, of the North Carolina Nurses Association, has been re-elected as Vice President. The newly-elected board members are: Treasurer Jennifer Mensik, PhD, RN, NEA-BC, FAAN, Arizona Nurses Association; Director-at-Large MaryLee Pakieser, MSN, RN, FNP-BC, ANA-Michigan; and Director-At-Large, Recent Graduate Amanda Buechel, BSN, RN, ANA-Illinois. ANA Membership Assembly Takes Action on Advocacy Strategies, Member Engagement

Nearly 300 representatives and observers to the American Nurses Association's Membership Assembly had the opportunity to discuss advocacy-building and member-engagement issues, share effective strategies, and network with colleagues around the country before the two-day event in Washington, DC, came to a close. Eligible Assembly representatives also voted in ANA Board of Directors and committee members.
Representatives approved recommendations that were developed following two separate, but related, dialogue forums held the previous day. One focused on preparing nurses to be effective advocates in an uncertain health care environment and another on fostering member engagement in association policy development. Read more.
 

2017 ANA Membership Assembly Opens With Focus on Advocacy, Resilience

Following a successful Hill Day event, the importance of strong advocacy continued to be the primary message when the American Nurses Association Membership Assembly kicked off today. (Click here to see opening video.)
About 300 attendees are at the Assembly, including both representatives from ANA's constituent/state nurses associations, Individual Member Division and specialty nursing organizational affiliates, and observers.
In her opening remarks, President Pamela F. Cipriano, PhD, RN, NEA-BC, FAAN, harkened back to the theme of her speech from last year's Assembly, "Leading in a Changing World." That theme has become prophetic given the turn of events that began with the Nov. 8, 2016, election and continue with the uncertainties surrounding the future of health care, human rights, climate change and other important issues. Read more.
