SAMHSA MAT Prescribing: Nurse Practitioner and Physician Assistant UpdateFebruary 28, 2017 This week, SAMHSA launched a new webpage explaining how nurse practitioners (NPs) and physician assistants (PAs) can begin prescribing the opioid-addiction medication buprenorphine. Prior to prescribing, NPs and PAs need to complete a 24-hour training and apply for a DATA-waiver. NPs and PAs who successfully complete the required training and DATA-waiver application will be able to treat up to 30 patients.
