Colorado Nurses Stay Connected with Legislators

March 13, 2022.

Colorado is approximately one half way through the 2022 Legislative Session. To see what bills are in the House and Senate Chambers or Committees in real-time, you can view the display board and tune in to audio directly. To tune into the House or Senate floor work with video, click here

Colorado Nurses Association and the Government Affairs and Public Policy (GAPP) Committee work throughout each Session with our lobbyists, Capitol Success Group to study bills that have implications for patients and nurses through out Colorado.  Through this work, we identify bills that we are in support of or that we are in opposition to.  Based on the GAPP Committee work, we then determine how to best advocate as a professional association.

As individual nurses, you are encouraged to monitor the current work in the House and Senate Chambers, as well as speak on behalf of yourself with individual Legislators, by contacting them by email or via their office phone available online here.

If you do not know who your legislator is, you may Find your Legislator here. Once you know who  your Senate and House Representatives are, you may locate their email address and phone number here.

When communicating with your Representatives, we suggest a couple key steps.   The "Bill Number" should be in the title of your email or message, i.e., HB22, or SB22, signifies this is a bill being considered in the 2022 Session. You will want to add the number of the Bill and the Title, for example, HB22-1005 Health-care Preceptor Tax Credit Bill.

We also suggest you enter your position on the bill, for example, HB22-1005 Health-care Preceptor Tax Credit, Support, in your email title or phone message.

You may want to add specific reasons for your position on the Bill.  Patient or practice related stories are always most power ways to offer examples of the importance of your position.

When signing your email or prior to leaving your message, always share your name, that you are an RN or LPN, and include your phone number and email address.

Be brief and concise in your request and comments.  If you have talking points that you can share, it is always good to attach those for the Legislator.

Always close by thanking them for their work and for considering your feedback.
