Legal Defense Fund

The Colorado Nurses Legal Defense Fund was started in 2008 when CNA was actively involved with the Sunset of the Nurse Practice Act and review. The fund is used to offset legal expenses incurred by CNA to further the profession of nursing in Colorado. The fund has been used to defend delegation by school nurses, keep the practice of nursing as an independent profession and remove the need for collaborative agreements for APRNs to practice and prescribe. Costs for legal consultation and representation at critical rule making sessions on legislation impacting nursing have also been paid for in part by the fund.

The Legal Defense Fund has helped with costs for CNA to have an attorney in court when we collaborated with the Governor’s Office and Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetists in their fight to practice independently in support of rural hospitals and patient care.

Nursing must continue to be at the table and in the courtroom to keep others from making decisions for us. Donations to the Colorado Nurses Legal Defense Fund can be sent to the Colorado Nurses Association. These donations will be used solely to support legal efforts on behalf of nurses.
