Call to Action: Support Federal Level Workplace Violence Prevention Efforts

May 9, 2023

In previous years, you have taken the time to advocate for yourself and other nurses by urging Congress to address workplace violence. Recently, the Workplace Violence Prevention for Health Care and Social Service Workers Act was introduced in the House and Senate. Can we count on you again to advocate for nurses and email Congress?

As you know, workplace violence against nurses is unacceptably high. In fact, one in four nurses has been assaulted at work -- making them more likely to be exposed to violence than either prison guards or police officers.

This bill will address workplace violence by ensuring that health care providers will be ready and able to protect themselves, their coworkers, and their patients should the need arise. This legislation also requires the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) to develop standards requiring health care and social service employers to write and implement a workplace violence prevention plan to protect employees from violent incidents in the workplace.

Urge your elected officials to cosponsor this vital legislation to support and protect  nurses!

Thank you for your advocacy!
