FBI Authorizes CBI to proceed with Required Background Checks for eNLC
February 8, 2018
Greetings from the Division of Professions & Occupations and the Colorado State Board of Nursing,
We have been notified by the Colorado Bureau of Investigation (CBI) that the Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI) has approved Colorado’s fingerprint background checks. CBI is now ready to accept fingerprint submissions.
The Board will continue to issue temporary permits until such a time that we are assured the fingerprint process is proceeding appropriately. This will ensure applications are processed timely and qualified nurses are authorized to practice nursing until their fingerprint background checks are processed. Information regarding the temporary permit process may be found here .
We have notified all affected nurses and applicants and will continue to regularly remind them of the requirement to submit fingerprints to CBI for the processing of the required background check. If you are contacted with questions regarding the procedure for submission of fingerprints, please direct inquiries to the information and instructions needed to fulfill this requirement the Nurse Compact website or to [email protected].
Once the CBI and FBI have completed processing the fingerprint background check, the results will be transmitted to our office. We are unsure how long this processing will take; however, we will begin approving multi-state licenses at such time as we receive and review the background check results. It is important to remember that, to date, we have approximately 5000 nurses that require fingerprint background checks so the volume may slow the process.
Thank you for your support during this transition and for your outreach efforts. If you have questions, please contact us at [email protected].
